There is actually quite a bit of research tied in with how the products you put on your skin DO affect your health.
Check out the information provided by the David Suzuki Foundation who is a leader in the Green Living ways here on the Dirty Dozen Toxic Ingredients found in conventional beauty products!

The Foundation reports that "One in eight of the 82,000 ingredients used in personal care products are industrial chemicals, including carcinogens, pesticides, reproductive toxins, and hormone disruptors. Many products include plasticizers (chemicals that keep concrete soft), degreasers (used to get grime off auto parts), and surfactants (they reduce surface tension in water, like in paint and inks). Imagine what that does to your skin, and to the environment."

I would like to conduct an experiment with you right now!! Go into your bathroom and pull out a bottle or package of one of your favorite products you use everyday and check out the ingredients. Does the ingredient list contain any of the following:
♦DMDM hydantoin
♦diazolidinyl urea
♦imidazolidinyl urea
♦methenamine or quarternium-15

If so, then you are applying a formaldehyde containing preservative to your body! It not only is absorbed into your skin to then be included in your bloodstream, but slowly off-gasses so you then breathe it in too! Check out this article to go deeper in the explanation of this.

The harm is that when they slowly release small amounts of formaldehyde, you are exposed to cancer causing components.

Did you find any of THESE ingredients in the list?
♦Paraben
♦Methylparaben
♦Butylparaben
♦Propylparaben

These preservatives are known to be endoctrine disruptors and can cause allergic reactions in some individuals!

Why is it so important to consider WHAT you put on your skin? Lets talk about a skin pore for a moment and how it relates to the body!

The skin is your bodies LARGEST organ that is mostly overlooked as a possible entrance into the body and its health.
Check out this graphic of a skin pore and how the hair follicle is directly linked to your bloodstream!

It may be said by some manufacturers that , "A little bit won;t hurt you and give you cancer". Maybe not, but a plethora of products ALL COMBINED over the course of a day, even a lifetime adds up. Your skin absorbs the toxins, then it is filtered to your liver. When your liver can no longer handle the toxic overload from all of the perfumes, preservative containing products AND environmental toxins you can do nothing about, it has to go SOMEWHERE??

A lot of toxins are stored in our body fat to make sure it is far enough away from our vital organs for preservation of the body to continue functioning. Just consider for a moment all of the products you use on a daily basis. Make a list if you feel inclined to do so, then start with ONE product replacement.

WHAT do you use instead?? This is one of the BIGGEST questions I asked myself when I started my journey to whole wellness. I didn't start out making ALL of my products I use everyday, but started with ONE and added on as I felt ready to do so!
Here are a few ideas for you!

♦Start with changing your deodorant to one without aluminum. Here is the one I make that is my BEST SELLER!

♦Start with changing your body lotion! This is my Best Selling one for the whole family!

♦Start with changing the Soap you wash with! Bar soap has just as many suds as the liquid body washes do when you rub it in circles on a pouf! Check out my soaps here!

NOW tell me in the comments below : WHAT ITEM ARE YOU STARTING OUT WITH CHANGING FIRST? WHAT WOULD BE THE HARDEST TO CHANGE AND WHY?
Part 1: Your skin is what you..........EAT!Honey Bee Holistics Wellness Series is now underway! I have been receiving a lot of questions pertaining to the health of the skin, how to heal it with herbs, and what products would be best for it. I do have my recommendations based on skin type, and needs, but it is a touchy subject when other information is presented that may be seen as a judgement.
I always keep in mind what could possibly help other than an Organic Lotion I provide. The lotion is a good preventative and healing soother, but often times there is something else going on that is causing it in the first place. If I am able to share what I have learned with my customers, then they would take a closer look at how they can help themselves through health of the body! Part 1: Your skin is what you..........EAT!

This concept is fairly new to me as I have always thought of my skin as something that can be healed with a cream or herb. It was not until July 2013 that I was forced to take a closer look at my health through the "eyes" of my skin!

We planned a big 4th of July party which our friends were coming over with their families and camping out near the river for the weekend. Three whole days of fun. I looked forward to it, as we usually do not get visitors since we are approx 1 hr from the nearest major highway! I have become accustomed to the drive it takes to get anywhere, but others are not since they live in the cities.

So the morning of June 30th, I woke up with what appeared to be little blisters on my face! I was completely perplexed as I occasionally would have a pimple, but not little blisters around my mouth, nose and eyes. As anyone who knows me, I am a "do-it-yourself" kind of gal! If it can be healed, I will figure it out. I save my visits to the Dr. for stitches and major surgery. Even then, our family Dr. is Doctor of Naturopathy, which is right up my alley of recommending herbs to heal, not jumping to write a prescription for each ailment. Writing a script is the LAST resort for a Naturopathic Dr. as I have found in my experience.

So just a few days to get it cleared up and I would be ready for the party. My body & skin said otherwise! I tried some topical applications of Calendula, which had worked before, but not this time. The blisters persisted. I was horrified. It was awful trying to go anywhere with these blisters all over my face that resembled zits, but they weren't!
Good thing I am remotely adept with makeup, so I was able to cover them up a little, but this seemed to make them worse.
I cried a little. I am being upfront with you, I did cry. How could this be happening? I definitely needed a different approach. Crying does not solve anything, so back to work figuring it out.

I started searching pictures on Google for eczema, then blistering eczema. I found one that looked like what I was suffering from here.

source

The more pictures I looked at the more it hurt my heart to know of SO MANY people suffering from this! I was not alone, yet I needed to share what I did to heal myself so I can help others!

One of the most common suggestions I kept reading was going on an elimination diet. Eliminate what? Well the common triggers are: Dairy, Caffeine, Wheat, Gluten, Eggs, Soy, Sugar. I pretty much ate all of those things, so I needed to start with eliminating 2 at a time for a few weeks to see if it helped. If it didn't help, then 2 more until I figured it out. Once it was starting to heal, then I could slowly re-incorporate some of them to see if it triggered a reaction.

I started out eliminating my coffee and chocolate habit! I LOVE both of them dearly, but was going to get this going as soon as I could. It started to work, a little. I was reminded by my Grandmother that she had recently been diagnosed with Celiac Disease. I do know that this is possibly hereditary, so I may be suffering and not know it. So I thought it could not hurt to try. So on my next shopping trip I purchased some popular Gluten Free alternatives for my regular items: bread, pasta, crackers, flours

I also started Oil Pulling. If you have not heard of this, read here with information on how it detoxifies the body to allow complete healing from what ails you!

I would do it every morning after brushing my teeth with my homemade toothpaste (recipe available upon request), every afternoon before lunch, and each night before bed after brushing my teeth. It took about 3 months before I started seeing my blisters subside, and my face returning to normal! I then SLOWLY re-incorporated dairy once a week, coffee 3 times /week. I completely eliminated Gluten for good, as my belly had not felt this good EVER!! I was no longer boaty after eating, and I have dropped to this day 15lbs without any vigorous workouts needed! My jeans fit better, and I feel more energetic and ALIVE!!

The 4th of July party went off well, even though I was in the middle of my healing. I am now wiser to what effects me and how to help myself! Of course these suggestions and steps I took are not for everyone, but it is worth giving a try for 2-3 months to see if it helps you!! What is a few months in your ENTIRE life anyway but a drop in the bucket?

YOU are worth living your healthiest and liveliest life ever!! Keep in mind that lotions only help the outside reaction and do not heal the ROOT cause of your skin condition. Look deeper to heal yourself without the need for harmful medications. I do understand that some medications are necessary in life for some, but the option to heal yourself with food is in your control!!
<iframe src="http://rcm-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/cm?t=honbeehol-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=1936608367&ref=qf_sp_asin_til&fc1=000000&IS2=1<1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0">

Check out my FAVORITE Gluten Free cookbook here by Danielle Walker. She experienced drastic symptoms that she was told she was going to have to live with her whole life. She healed herself with food! She is a wonderful wiz in the kitchen with Gluten/Grain Free foods and I have made SOO many of them with great success!
I have found from experience that the "product" itself does not "cure" the ailment, it merely "assists" the body to heal itself! The concentration on providing your body with the tools it needs to do so is not done with one product alone. It is achieved when ALL of the aspects of the body are addressed including but not limited to: environment, stress levels, supplements, foods, products used. There is not a SINGLE cure for everyone. Each one of us possesses a unique DNA structure that is solely our own, so with this in mind, How can one product be suited for everyone?

In truth, it is not. Some of the products I make are the EXACT item that the particular customer who purchased it needed. Sometimes it is not. Wouldn't it be nice to have someone experienced with herbs and essential oils look at your overall health and situation and suggest products and lifestyle recommendations that fit into your life?

I have been practicing herbal applications in my own life for over 8 years now. Over this time I have worked with Organic Essential Oils, Organic Herbs and also Wild Crafted herbs that grow in the Pacific Northwest. I am NOT formerly certified in Herbalisim, or any Medical Practice. It is of UTMOST importance that the disclaimer be read before any assumptions are made. I have seen the applications of the herbs work wonders in my life. My skin, hair, and overall health has been improved with the use of Herbs and Oils. I have also changed my diet and the foods I eat DRAMATICALLY over the course of these 8 years. A lot of the frustrations I have had with my body have been solved when I addressed the foods I was putting INTO it.
It is my gift to the world to share my acquired knowledge of these helpful plants & essences in the form of a consultation. Each individual has specific vibrations that are often blocked by the foods we eat, the products we use, and the mindset we have when using them. I have found in my own life, that the products I use to help alleviate my particular situation in my health, are only PART of the puzzle. The body is a wonderous machine that is equipped with the ability to repair itself. The Customized products, herbal recommendations and herbal oils are merely the missing catalyst your body needs to do what it already knows how to do!

Here is a picture of my Herb starts in the greenhouse!
It is a healing serum for all skin types!When I first heard of Frankincense, I remember at Christmas time it being told of the Wise Men bringing the Baby Jesus, Frankincense and Myrrh. At the time when I was little, I did not really understand what it was. So fast forward to when I began to read my first Aromatherapy Book called, A Complete Guide to Understanding & Using Aromatherapy for Vibrant Health & Beauty by Roberta Wilson!
I learned that Frankincense has always been associated with spirituality, which I believe is the reasoning for it being a gift the Wise Men brought to Baby Jesus! Both the Egyptians and Hebrews spent fortunes through out its existence to import this very valuable oil. It has healing effects that are associated with many parts of the body, especially the skin! The Egyptians found this to be true when they noticed the effects of the frankincense oil on their embalmed bodies. They thought, If it is great for preserving a dead corpse, what would it do for a living persons skin?

This small, shrubby, extremely hardy Frankincense tree is covered in bark that possesses a milky white juice. When it comes in comtact with air, it solidifies into an amber orange colored resin. Then the resin is taken and steam distilled to result in a clear, pale yellow oil. SOME oils, as stated in my previous post here, are extracted by soaking on solvents then boiling away until the solvent is evaporated. NOT good for ANY type of application, which is why I ONLY purchase Steam-Distilled, Organic Frankincense Essential Oil. This tree is native in the middle East, as well as to China, Iran, Lebanon and Oman. It grows wild in Africa too!
It is still one of my favorite books! As you see I need to get it rebound:) I actually found mine at a Goodwill store. I will spend time looking through all of the books they have available on cooking and herbs. ESPECIALLY if you are out of town visiting a new city or town, stop by their Thrift Store, as not EVERYONE is interested in the same topics, which is a WIN WIN!!

As I perused through the pages, with all of the ideas and possibilities contained within, I came to Frankincense. I USED to suffer from pimples! EEEK! They would come out of nowhere, overnight really. I knew it had to do with stress, and the foods I ate, as well as the environment I lived in and the products I used on it. In comes Frankincense, a.k.a Boswellia Carterii. I started incorporating it into my facial moisturizer that I used every morning & evening. It only took approximately 1 week to start to see improvements!! I did make a special blend using Organic Jojoba & Organic Grapeseed Oils since the Organic Olive Oil was too heavy for my oily skin. It worked wonders!!

Many of my customers have had the pleasure of finding this out for themselves with the products I make with this miracle oil! It is restorative, and regenerating actions are very useful for dry, mature and sensitive skin types. With this information, my Organic Frankincense Lotion was conceived!

When I combined this amazing oil with Organic Rose Essential oil, it has made a most restorative lotion that has helped many customers of mine!

Here is some feedback I received on my Organic Frankincense Lotion!

♦Lovely scent, and wonderful creamy consistency, a delightful treat for my dry skin!

♦Fabulous organic lotion, just love the frankincense in it, high quality product.

♦This is the best lotion i have ever used! It works fantastic on dry sensitive skin! My boyfriend and I use it daily and haven't stopped using it since we first got it! Thanks for all the fabulous natural products you make!

I have made this with Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil which is beneficial to dry, sensitive skin types. It helps improve skin tone and texture. Its benefits on aging skin are exemplified due to its abilities to encourage new cell growth! Out with the old & in with the new :)

Ironically enough, it is also beneficial to Oily/Acne Prone skin as well! Normally you would not find an oil to have BOTH properties available that address more than one skin type, but you do with Frankincense!

It has anti-inflammatory & antiseptic properties that help to heal and reduce acne, pimples and warts! With this in mind, I have made some custom products for my customers that are formulated with carrier oils such as Organic Jojoba and Organic Grapeseed Oil which are more easily absorbed by oily skin. It is similar to my Organic Marshmallow Honey Face Lotion, but fortified with Organic Frankincense Essential oil!
Lavender~ Part 2: Uses of Lavender Essential OilLast week we reviewed how Lavender can be used in edible applications, ex. tea, spice blends, popscicles. Now I am going to review the uses of its essential oil! Essential oils are the true ESSENCE of the said herb. It can be obtained by steam distillation, solvent extraction and infusion. Here is a diagram of how steam distillation works.

When I choose Essential oils, I choose ones that are Organic,{to avoid pesticide contamination} and ones that are steam distilled. Solvent extraction is done with chemical solvents which in turn leave a residue behind that cannot be removed. This is definitely not in line with my goal of providing chemical-free, healing oils for my family & my business, so steam distilled it is!
You may order some Organic Essential Oils where I get mine, at Mountain Rose Herbs! They have SO many Organic herbs to choose from too, so you can get some bulk Organic Lavender for your own spice blend in my first Lavender Post!

Now back to the highlight today, Organic Lavender Essential oil! It has a sweet, floral, herbaceous scent that has a woody undertone. The Ancient Greeks and Romans prized it as a perfume and for its cleansing properties. Medieval Europeans considered lavender an herb of love, as it was claimed to have aphrodisiac qualities!! In the time of dirt floors, the buds were strewn about so that when stepped upon, the flowers released their fragrance. This particular tradition continues today in Portugal and Spain. Its fragrance is known to ease headaches, calm the nerves and promote an easy feeling.

The application of Organic Lavender essential oil should be diluted, as with any essential oil. Our bodes cannot handle the strength of the flower essences, so a little is better than a lot! For example, my Organic Lavender Lotion has a calculated amount of drops in each jar so it will effectively help the user, but not be toxic to the system. It is also one of the FEW safe essential oils for infants and children! Quite a few of my customers have reported positive results from massaging their babies with my Organic Lavender Lotion after bath time to soothe & relax them for bed.

Lavender essential oil is known to ease the pain & discomfort of muscular aches, spasms, and injuries along with helping to heal bruises, cuts and insect bites! This would come in handy when the season starts up again!! Another tip I have listed with my lotion is to apply it to the temples when a headache is present, as it helps relieve it.

When your skin is very dry and cracked, it needs a healing herb like lavender to soothe the inflammation and provide an antiseptic cooling action. This is one of the reasons why I came up with my Organic Lavender Herb lotion bar! Some people are not too excited about applying my cream while away from home, so a lotion bar is the solution! It travels very well, especially in its lidded stainless steel container. Formulated with Organic Unrefined Shea Butter & Organic EV Coconut Oil, it is the best option for intense moisturizing! Just rub in-between your hands and watch as the heat from your body starts to melt the lotion bar! You can also rub the lotion bar directly onto the dry skin areas.
Lavender Essential oil also helps repair damaged or overprocessed hair. I know that my hair has changed over the years, and the one thing we ALL have is split ends. Of course if you have just come from the beauty shop and received a trim, you are set, but in-between your trips, it is good to maintain your trim so your hair is the healthiest it can be!
You already are familiar with my Organic Hair Rinse in this post, but do you know of my Organic Hair Gel?

I came up with my formulation for my Organic Hair Gel when I was making my way down the list of products to replace in my beauty regimen. I despise the feeling of "crunchiness" in my hair, so the Organic Hair products at the store were not cutting it. The ONLY one I liked was made in a base of Organic Aloe Vera Gel. BINGO!! I went to work formulating my OWN recipe for Organic Hair Gel. First the herbs Organic Lavender & Organic Rosemary are steeped in the aloe gel to impart their oils into it for a minimum of 4 months.

Then with each bottle ordered, I mix in fresh drops of Organic Lavender Essential oil and Organic Rosemary Essential Oil. The herb infusion, PLUS the essential oils helps to layer the scent & properties so it is more effective. This hair gel is VERY light and is ideal for those who let their hair air dry. Air drying your hair is so much healthier for it anyway, plus it produces a soft, frizz-free head of hair anyone will be jealous of!

Please keep in mind that all of my hair products are formulated to work together! Start off with one of my Organic Soaps to loosen dirt & oils, then my Organic Hair Rinse to balance the pH levels, and end with an application of my Organic Hair Gel to finish. I have been using this routine on my hair for over 2 years now. I will NEVER look back to conventional products again!! My hair not only has less frizz, but it is the healthiest that it has EVER been! I have naturally oily hair and used to have to shampoo EVERY DAY! Not anymore, I am happy to report. My hair has normalized, and my scalp has healed. Tangles have been reduced and split ends are few & far between. You may contact me for a customized hair regimen of your own! I understand not all essential oils are for everyone, so I am happy to customize the hair rinse & hair gel to your preferences. I will also provide recommendations for specific oils that are good for hair & ones that are not. Send me an email if you would like to take advantage of this specialized service! honeybeeholistics (At) yahoO {dOt} cOm
Part One: Learn how it's flower buds can help you!Lavender (lavandula angustifolia) is one of the most widely known plants in the herbal world! You are most likely familiar with its smell, but what about its culinary uses?

source

In the 1970's, the herb blend Herbes de Provence became a big hit, thus bringing the culinary use of Lavender to the limelight! Note that this is the AMERICAN version, adding in Lavender, as the French do not add Lavender in their Herbes de Provence! You can make your OWN herbs de provence to use on your Roasted Meats, veggies, and just about anything! The key is to only use a TINY bit of Lavender in the mix, or it may be too overpowering!

This is the blend I have made for myself! I just put them all in my spice grinder reserved for HERBS ONLY, as one used for coffee would have a coffee flavor to it, and grind until it is a fine powder. If you only have ONE grinder, you can carefully wash your grinder with soap & water, rinse & dry VERY well, or the herbs will stick to it, then use as directed. Don't forget to wash again or your coffee may have an herb flavor the next morning :)
It is important to grind it well to fully incorporate all of the herbs together so you end up with a powder of sorts to work with. It is then easier to sprinkle on your foods without chunks of herbs! Make sure you seek out Edible Lavender, or Organic Lavender meant for consumption so you do not get a hold of synthetic or chemically processed lavender buds!

Now for the recipe I created:
☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼
HERBES DE PROVENCE / Honey Bee Holistics Version
♦ 2 tablespoons dried savory
♦ 1 tablespoon dried oregano
♦ 3 teaspoons dried rosemary
♦ 3 teaspoons dried marjoram
♦ 2 teaspoons dried lavender flowers
☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼☼
We are not fond of thyme in my household, so I eliminated it and added a bit more marjoram to the mix. You may of course add in some thyme if you like it! I have used this spice blend to re-create this Roasted chicken with Herbes de Provence. It is very EASY and dinner is done in a flash once you get it in the oven!

You may also use Lavender Buds for a relaxing tea! Did you know that teas are also called infusions? Infusions are the gentlest way to incorporate herbs into your life for healing. I have created an herbal tea made with Organic Lavender, Organic Chamomile and Organic Lemon Balm here.

It is a great way to unwind in the evening, as the Organic Lavender and Organic Chamomile work together to form a relaxing effect on the mind & body. It is even safe for children as well! If you have a child who has a hard time settling down, this would make a great evening drink before bedtime. After steeping in boiling water for 10 minutes, covered, transfer to the refrigerator to cool completely so your child can drink it. You can also make it into popsicles to enjoy! This would be great for a child with a sore throat as well since Lavender has natural anti-inflammatory properties.

Considering the anti-inflammatory actions of Lavender, it would also prove beneficial to put some of my bulk tea into an old sock, tied off and let it steep in the bathtub for a full body experience of relaxation. This would help soothe achey joints, muscles and tendons. It is very important to put in a sock or gathered cloth as the herbs may clog the drain! Get some bulk Organic Lavender Chamomile Tea here.
Lavender buds contain a substance called Linalol that heals sores, burns and other wounds. It also has a camphorous aroma that helps relieve congestion and ease respiratory issues. This would come in handy as a natural way to relieve congestion you may suffer from due to allergies or sickness.

See what I did to help in this challenging area of my life!So here we are, a new year upon us and it is up to each and every one of us to make this one the BEST ever!!
It doesn't matter where you find yourself at this time, YOU have the power within yourself to make it the most successful, most memorable year yet!

It is true that any successful person has to have a plan in place. When you have a ton of things to accomplish, it helps to have a system in place to keep it all compiled in manageable bites. It also helps to get your dreams and goals down so you can make them come to fruition. I was so thrilled to have found Leonie Dawson!

She has been motivating Women for years now, and i fell in love with her enthusiasm and bright spirit instantly :)
I watched her video and signed up for her free e-book. I was hooked & wanted more!

Now to address the "Organization" need, I saw she had a workbook to help me with this. I was excited to get it, and found that it is in a pdf format to download instantly! I purchased the one for my business. She also has one for your life as well. It is illustrated with her whimsical pictures and wonderful uplifting words. It is like a great friend guiding me along to map out my year for success. Check it out here.

It is only $9.95 and you get a TON of info to get you organized! It starts out with the closing of 2013 before diving into 2014.

Now in closing I would like to share with you some quotes that have stuck with me over the years!
They are ones to keep in the fore front of your mind to keep your motivation engine going!

♦What you dream about & think about you bring about.

~This one helped change my life! I was determined to make it possible to be a Work-at-Home-Mom and get OUT of the corporate world. Even though I was not supported by all of the people in my life at the time, I persisted with my own dream and made it a reality! I started by attending & becoming a member of my town's Saturday Market. I woke up at 6am each Saturday from Late May till early September, organized my items and hand placed each item just so after putting up my tent & tables. Everyone has to start SOMEWHERE, you just have to get it in your mind to START!

♦Every moment is another chance to turn it all around!

~I remind myself of this DAILY! YOU have the power within you to make positive changes in your life. It does not matter where you come from, where you are, how much money you make.........YOU ultimately have the power to make the changes in your life to make your dreams come true. EVERY choice you make is either in support of your dream, or not. Make sure you remember this in each moment you spend in your life. Here is a picture of me with my daughter, too little to walk, strapped to my front with a baby carrier. I needed to harvest my Wild Nettles for my tea I make, so I strapped her on and went to picking! Never has she ever been an "excuse" to not do what I needed to do to reach my goal. Time waits for no one, so do it NOW!

♦For every 10 "no's" there is 1 "yes".

~When you start your dream, there will inevitably be a large percentage of people in your life who are not on board with you. It is natural to want to have a support system with your friends & family, I wanted this too. I was so very lucky to have my Best friend Naomi on board with me:) She was one of my supporters through it all. This is a picture of us just 5 days after the birth of my baby girl. She came over to help me with my orders & take care of me while I recouped. I hope you find YOUR "Naomi" who loves you for you & helps support you on your path!
The choices I made were for ME, not them. It is MY dream, not anyone else's. Always know in your heart that you are supported, whether you have found your "peron/group" or not yet. Seek out the groups who are in line with what you are trying to accomplish in your life. There are actually a LOT of people in the world who are on a similar path as you.

Now go out and be the best YOU that you can be and get your plan in place so you can share your gift with the world! Its actions are antiseptic, anti-fungal & anti-inflammatory. It is widely used by herbalists for its gentle approach to healing.

Calendula is beneficial for dry & damaged skin thanks to its anti-inflammatory action. I saw it go to work first hand on my own eczema!
If you have ever read my story as to why I first became interested in making my own products, then you know a bit of it already.

I was 26, and up to this point in my life I did not really have any skin issues to speak of except an occasional pimple once a month. When I had started getting a dryness on my arms I reached for the well known "oat based" lotion. This helped it, but only for a few hours until it became itchy again. Thank goodness it was during the cold season, as I was able to wear long sleeves then, because it looked horrible. As time went on, it started to blister up and crack. I would find myself waking up in the middle of the night scratching my arms. When I would itch it would feel good for a split second until it started to burn like my arms were on fire!!

I am a "do-it-yourself" kind of gal, so I did not run to the Dr. right away. I planned on toughing it out until I found something that worked, THEN if it got too bad, I would go to the Dr. and possibly get a script. I started checking into all of the ingredients on my "oat-based" lotion. It was as follows: Water, Glycerin, Distearyldimonium Chloride, Petrolatum, Isopropyl Palmitate, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Benzyl Alcohol, Sodium Chloride (table salt).

I took the time to look up each one and analyze if it could be preventing my skin from healing. I know that in order for an inflammation to heal it needs to breathe and have some sort of antiseptic application to reduce swelling and speed healing. I felt that the use of the Petrolatum prevented my skin from breathing as it does not penetrate the skin, but sits on top of the skin forming a barrier. This might be good if I were wanting to protect my skin when I showered from being dried out, but it is better to take lukewarm showers to prevent this. In my quest to keep in moisture, the ingredients ending with "-alcohol" take the lotion in another direction. There are 2 types of alcohol present which cause a drying action on the skin. Here is a picture of what my eczema looked like, though I did not ever take pictures of my own arms at the time. Credits

No more store bought lotion for me! I started my research for a recipe for a lotion that was made simple with minimal ingredients. Trust me, this was not easy! Most were lotions pre-made that I could add scents to, not a recipe to make it from scratch. THEN I came upon a well known herbalist, Rosemary Gladstar!

Rosemary had so much information I started off with a few of her books. I had a feeling that I was on the right track and just went with it! It was the beginning of my love for herbs♥ This shining through my soul like a light guiding me to my own healing refuge. She goes through the steps and information to make your own lotion using beeswax, oils and healing herbs. I read it over & over & over again! I wanted to make it imprinted on my mind so I could easily create masterpieces of healing lotion for my aching skin. Calendula is highlighted in one of Rosemary's skin healing salves. I saw this as an herb that would be good in a lotion too! So I chose the hot extraction method and began infusing my Organic Olive Oil with the Organic Calendula petals. It turned the oil a beautiful deep yellow-orange and had a gentle flower scent to it. I then used this infused oil to make my first lotion!!

After using it for only a few days, my arms itched less. Then after a week, the redness was gone and it was healing up nicely! I was completely astounded and wanted to know more. I thought to myself, "I bet there are other people out there who could benefit from this too!". The rest you can read in my About Me page here, if you would like the continuation of how my business grew!

Now I had some healing Calendula lotion and became educated each time I opened another book on how herbs can heal our bodies. My Organic Calendula lotion is now my #1 Best Selling Lotion and continues to help people of all ages! Here are a few testimonials from my Etsy customers who shared their story.

♦Reviewed by Greek2Me: I Love it! I use it on my face (oily and acne prone) and on my 2 year old son who has eczema. Works great on both! Leaves my skin glowy and smooth :)

♦Reviewed by Chelsea: This cream is so amazing!!! I suffer from occasional dry patches of skin and eczema, but after a few days of applying this cream, my once rough skin is transformed into wonderful silky softness :-) Thank You so much for creating this fantastic product! ♡

♦Barbara Rowlete: I am 67 years old, Irish,and have so many problems with my skin. I had cancer 4 years ago, and have done organic foods, and as many organic skin care items as my skin will allow. I really like the lotion it goes into the skin,and with my dry skin after one application was so much better.

I also incorporated the Organic Calendula in my most popular lip balm, Organic Calendula Chamomile. Its anti-inflammatory properties also help provide relief from dry, cracked lips. It is MY favorite lip balm as well! I have one in my purse, one in the car, one in my makeup case and one by my bed! Obsessed a little? :)
Very short. My mother, who had four daughters, was too busy messing with all of our hair, especially mine. She didn't allow me to have long hair, and I got used to having a short cropped cut. You see, my hair is very abundant. I have such thick hair that every single hair stylist I have visited so far has exclaimed, "My, you have a lot of hair!"

While many women wish for this kind of abundance, I have always considered my plentiful hair a curse. When I moved to the United States from Germany 20 years ago, I started growing my hair long. My husband likes me hair long, and I do, too - most of the time. Except it gets poofy in damp weather, and folks, let's face it: I live in a climate that gets 100 inches of precipitation a year! What am I thinking? If I were vain, I would moved a long time ago.

When I first met Melissa from Honey Bee Holistics, I was struck by her gorgeous hair. It, too, is thick and naturally wavy like mine, but hers looked so... un-frizzy, so... contained and shiny. I wanted what she had.
Enter her organic rosemary hair rinse.

This is how she keeps her hair so stunning, and I wanted a piece of that action. So I headed to the shower, washed my hair, and then tested out this hair rinse. It's a concentrate, so you you have to dilute it in a quart of water. All it takes is a little squirt of the concentrate. It is so fragrant! It smells like a woodland forest, which is just about my favorite smell of all times.
Melissa advises to massage the rinse into the scalp after cleansing. The massage and ingredients help with circulation, healing and skin regeneration of the scalp, which in turns makes the hair grow healthier. I knew that vinegar is great as a hair rinse because it helps restore proper pH, but never tried it before. This hair rinse contains organic apple cider vinegar infused with rosemary, as well as essential oils of rosemary and rosewood (hence the heavenly smell).
In short: I love it!!! I usually have to put massive conditioner in my hair because it's pretty dry, but I haven't used any conditioner ever since using this hair rinse. My hair is shinier, softer and looks healthier than it did when I religiously used conditioner after shampooing. And it makes my hair smell so nice!

*****Thank you Corina for such a wonderful review!! Corina's hair IS so very thick and beautiful! I am so glad it worked out for her:) She shared with me that she had used henna on her hair, and the rinse did not effect the color at all. My Mom, who colors her hair professionally, DID in fact see a bit of her hair color wash out. I am bringing this up just in case you DO color your hair, you might see a washing out of sorts happen when you use the rinse.

I would like to point out a few benefits that the Organic Rosemary Hair rinse has that other commercial conditioners do not toute!

♦Organic Rosemary is a circulatory stimulant! The many benefits of the rosemary plant {Rosmarinus officinalis} extend beyond cleansing, it also stimulates the hair follicles to increase hair growth. This is another reason why I include in the instructions for use, to gently massage the rinse into your scalp with your finger pads. Remember to NEVER use your nails for massaging as this damages the scalp.

♦Organic Rosemary is also an age-old remedy for dandruff. The branches used to be used as hair brushes so the oils would distribute throughout the hair & scalp. It stimulates the skin on the scalp to regenerate and renew, thus improving the health of the scalp, reducing dandruff & itchiness over time.
*This information along with other helpful tips are found in this book. <iframe src="http://rcm-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/cm?t=honbeehol0e-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&asins=B004QZ9VFK&ref=qf_sp_asin_til&fc1=000000&IS2=1<1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0">

♦The natural resins found in the rosemary also help to darken brunette hair types over time. If you have ever pulled off the fronds of a rosemary twig with your hands, you know what the resins feel like! It is a sticky sap that comes out of the rosemary petals. Of course, in the hair rinse it is not sticky as it has been dissolved by the acids in the vinegar.
The acids in the vinegar is what helps bring your hair to the proper pH balance after shampooing. I would recommend one of my shampoo bars for the shampooing part! Like my Organic Walnut Apricot shampoo bar here

I have made a new batch of this shampoo bar this week and it will be cured & ready for sale on Valentines Day, 02/14!!
I WILL take pre-orders if you are interested in claiming a bar of your own ahead of time, or you can visit my Etsy shop to pre-order!

♦There is also Wild Nettle infused into the vinegar rinse as well! Wild nettle, Urtica dioica, grows wild here in the Pacific Northwest. It only shoots up from March-May, so each year you will find me in the fields harvesting my heart out so I have enough for the year ahead! It contains Iron, Vitamin C and minerals from the soil that help to re-mineralize & heal the scalp.

So as you see, there are many benefits to using my Organic Hair Rinse for Brunettes! You can find the rinses for Brunettes & Blondes here in my Etsy shop. The formula for red hair is available by custom request only at this time!

Coming soon............. Information on another favorite herb of mine, Calendula! I will go over the benefits of this flower, plus the Why & How I incorporate it into my products!
I put on Honey Bee Holistic's Organic Honey Bee Face Mask while my four year old daughter watched. Here is our conversation:

Eva: Why do you look like that?

Me: Because I want to make my skin look pretty.

Eva: Can I lick the chocolate off your face?

Me: It's not chocolate. It's clay and honey.

Eva: Is that from a muddy puddle?

Me: No, honey, it' super special clay that Melissa collects when she's hiking in the mountains.

Eva: Can I have some on my face, too?

Me: Sure you can.

She wasn't so sure about it.

Me, though? I loved it! Do you remember playing in sticky mud when you were a kid? What's not to love?

Apart from the entertainment factor, the reason I love this product is because it made my skin so soft and moisturized.

Let me start from the beginning.

I was a little nervous about putting a mask containing clay on my super sensitive, dry skin. I've had bad experiences with clay before, leaving my skin stressed and even drier. Not this mask. Melissa puts honey and jojoba oil in it, which are both incredibly moisturizing.

I didn't have any directions on how to apply this and how long to leave it on, so I just opened the jar, put my finger in it, and tried to put it on my skin. That didn't work, because it was too thick, so I mixed it with a little water, and - voila! It adhered to my face like a charm.

I noticed immediately that this mask is different than other products I've tried before finding Honey Bee Holistics. The minute I put it on, I felt nourished. I also noticed some gentle exfoliating effect, probably from the oatmeal.

Eva kept asking me funny questions, which made me laugh. When I opened my mouth, I noticed the taste of honey. Yum! I had to remind myself not to lick my lips and eat the stuff, especially since it looks like chocolate fudge.

I left the mask on while I told Eva stories under the Christmas tree.

After 30 minutes, I decided to take it off. It never dried, which I love, because whenever clay dries, it pulls on my skin and kind of hurts. The mixture came off nicely with a warm wash cloth.

My skin felt amazing! I never even put moisturizer on my skin afterwards! I usually HAVE to put lotion on after washing my face, even if it's just with water. But with this mask, I didn't need to. Even now, hours after removing it, I know I won't have to put any moisturizer on my face until tonight, after my shower. Wow!!!

No kidding.

My husband and I have a child-free (!!!!) week in Cabo San Lucas, courtesy of my husband's brother, who owns a timeshare at a fancy hotel. He is letting us use a week for free, which is incredibly generous of him. We would never stay at a fancy place like this, but am I complaining? No. I am sipping Mexican beer, listening to and looking at ocean waves, computer on my lab, ready to review Honey Bee Holistics lip balm.

And let me tell you: lip balm is essential in Mexico. There is lots of sun, salt water, and wind to dry up those lips, and since this is kind of a honeymoon, I have to make sure my lips stay nice and kissable.

Melissa's lip balm is working wonders on me so far. I am very picky about lip balm: I don't like the stuff that feels greasy and thick on the lips, and I don't like artificial smells. I also don't like it when lip balm makes your lips tingle. So this vanilla balm is perfect for a lip balm snob like me.

Disaster struck on the flight to Mexico, somewhere over Phoenix. Across the aisle from us sat a family with a two year old daughter. They had their hands full keeping the little girl happy. My husband said something about our four year old daughter, who would be bouncing off the seat by now, and I cracked up laughing. That did it. The recycled airplane air had made my lips dry, and I had forgotten to put the lip balm in my carry-on bag. I felt my lip split. It hurt. Bad start to our trip.

Immediately after landing and reclaiming our baggage, I yanked out Melissa's lip balm and put it on. I re-applied it every hour for the rest of the day. The next day, my lips were good as new!

We have been playing in the ocean, swimming in a chlorinated pool, sunbathing in the hot sun, drinking plenty of salty margaritas, but my lips have stayed hydrated, soft and kissable!

I get giddy just looking at the ingredients. Listen to this: Organic Tahitian Vanilla Bean infused olive oil! Wow! How exotic is that! Then there is local unrefined beeswax. I love, love, love that Melissa uses local ingredients. In fact, I bet I know the guy whose bees make this. He also sells honey, and I buy from him! Way to support local! Then there is organic fair trade shea butter. No, not some ordinary shea butter, but fair trade! Yes! And then we have organic peppermint essential oil and organic vanilla essence.

Now this is a lip balm I support buying.

Okay? Please don't judge me! Okay?
This post is about cleaning with Honey Bee Holistic's Organic All-Purpose Surface Scrub.

Now, let me first tell you that I am the daughter of a German mother. A mother whose mission in life is to clean, and then to clean some more. Things were spotless when I grew up. I don't know how she managed this with four kids in the house.
I have three kids and a farm, with lots of soil and dirt and manure. I should be the one concerned about cleaning.

The sad truth is: I am not obsessed about cleaning. I wish I were, but I do realize that if I took my home making duties as far as my mother did, I would be hospitalized in a mental institution. While my house is reasonably hygenic, it's very messy and untidy. I put one thing away, and my four-year-old drags it out on the carpet ten seconds later. I make a home cooked meal from scratch every night, and after cleaning the pots and pans and dishes, the next day still looks like a bomb detonated in my kitchen. Every now and then, I dust in the living room. Then my husband makes a fire in the wood stove, and dust gently spreads all over everything immediately. Do you see what I'm saying? I give up.

So let's talk about my stove. It's a very nice stove, stainless steel and heavy duty. I cook on it a lot, and I take pride in creating nourishing meals for my family. You can imagine what this workhorse looks like, what with all the stuff that drips down and boils over. Cleaning the stove is one of those things I don't like to do because it is such a futile activity. It's so hard to do and takes a lot of elbow grease. I don't like the standard cleaners you buy at the store, with all their harsh ingredients and chemical smells (another excuse not to clean the stove!).

So when Honey Bee Holistic came up with her all purpose surface scrub, I resolved to make my oven look like new. This is what I started with. Yucky, I know. Don't judge me, okay?

This scrub has only natural ingredients in it, and a total of 16 essential oils, if I counted right. It smells awesome! It's like cleaning in a garden scented with peppermint, thyme, rosemary, lavender, oregano, pine.... It comes in a cute little mason jar with a pretty sticker on top and looks like a paste. It's not gritty, but smooth, and I wanted to lick it, it looked so appetizing.

I can't believe how gentle it was on the stainless steel. Previously, when I cleaned the stove with a scrubbie, it left fine scratches on it, which are still there. But using this cleaner, it didn't scratch at all – neither the stainless steel nor my skin. That's right: I didn't wear gloves, because I really wanted to feel everything in order to write a thorough review. Maybe Melissa should market this scrub as an exfoliant for hands?

Okay, I am getting carried away here. I want to show off my “new” stove, looking clean, smelling clean, and oh-so-shiny! My mother would be proud of me.

Hello, everyone! I feel so honored to be one of the official product reviewers of Melissa's creations! Melissa and I are on the same wave length about many things, including how to take care of our bodies. I have made my own body care products, so I know how much knowledge and care goes into her products.

Before I review her amazing Organic Coconut Citrus Scrub, let me briefly introduce myself.

I am a mother of three kiddos, whom I home school. I also grow a lot of our own organic food on our five acre homestead close to the wilderness. We raise goats, and I make lots of goat cheese and goat milk soap. In addition to all the kid and goat stuff, I am a fiber artist and obsessive compulsive knitter and spinner. You can see my creations at my website, where you also can find out about all the other things I do (transformational life coaching, teaching cheese making), and so much more.

As a busy mother of three relatively young children, I rarely have time (or energy) to pamper myself. Sometimes, I don't even wash my hair for a whole week! So when the chance arouse to review Honey Bee Holistic's Organic Coconut Citrus Scrub, I jumped at the bit. Here was a chance to do something good for myself - if not pamper myself, then at least get clean.

The first good impression of this product happened at the post office, when I eagerly opened the package and immediately smelled the heavenly scent of coconut and lemon. It was like a getting a delivery of a coconut-lemon cheese cake. My family and I were on the way to town in our minivan, and everyone commented on the wonderful smell of the scrub that filled our vehicle. It took a lot of bribing with other treats to convince my three year old daughter not to eat this scrub. At one point, my husband took my hand and slowly brought it up to his face. I felt so touched about this gallant gesture that I thought would culminate in kissing my hand, but all he wanted to do was smell my hand, where the scent of coconut and lemon lingered...

Back home, I carved out some Mommy-alone time in order to fully experience this scrub. My daughter had collected rose petals earlier, and they were strewn all over the bathroom floor. I lit a candle before stepping into the shower. What a way to set the stage! I am telling you, this was going to be a spa experience!

Melissa warned me to put a towel on the shower bottom so I wouldn't slip, because the scrub might make things slippery. I didn't do this, however, and I felt perfectly safe. The texture of the scrub was wonderful – grainy and oily at the same time. I was a little worried before I tried this that the abrasion would dry out my sensitive skin, but on the contrary! As I started applying the scrub, I immediately felt how gentle and nourishing it was. And the smell! I was transported to a tropical island and felt that these were the best ten minutes I ever spent in the shower!

An added bonus was the fact that shaving my legs was a breeze. I usually hate shaving my legs, but the oils in this scrub made it so very easy and enjoyable.

When I stepped out of the shower, my whole body felt moisturized, and not in that sticky, oily way that happens sometimes. My skin felt deeply pampered and very soft to the touch.

To summarize, I am so glad I got to try this scrub! I usually wouldn't buy anything like this for myself, but now I know that I will use (and buy) this product from now on! Way to create an addiction, Melissa! Job security for you, pampering for me – it's a win-win!

Have you heard of Stinging Nettles Urtica dioica before? They are a deep forest green plant that grows EVERYWHERE in the fields and back country here in Western Washington. Known as the Spring Tonic, Stinging Nettle is one of my favorite Wild Edibles!

Here is a pic of my jars steeping with the Nettle tops I picked just an hour ago!

It is known as an everyday nourisher, an energetic changer, kidney/adrenal ally, digestive restorative, hair & skin nourisher, and one of the highest natural non-animal Iron sources at 7%! Wild Nettle is also high in calcium, magnesium and chlorophyll. Each special property is even MORE of a reason to incorporate it into your life!

Since my love for Wild Nettles has grown since I first moved to Washington state 8 years ago, so has my knowledge. When you live around them, see them through the entire life cycle, a sprout to a dried plant in the fall, you get to know the plant and its energies. I have tried to harness these energies to make them available in a consumable form, my Wild Nettle Tea, as well as my Organic Rosemary & Nettle Hair Rinse!

"Wild Nettle Tea?" you are thinking. Yes, tea! It is good to make up a quart each night before bed and keep it in the refridgerator. Put 2 teabags, or 1 teapot bag into a quart jar. Fill up to the top with boiling water. Put on a lid, and store in the refridgerator until the morning. You can drink it all in the morning, OR sip it throughout the day. It reminds me, taste wise, kind of like spinach. Which brings up another point that it CAN replace spinach in recipes!! This is mostly achieved from fresh Nettles, so feasible if they grow around your area :)

And for the hair, it is a downright MUST!! It helps balance overly oily hair, check falling hair, encourage strength and ease itchy scalps! I have steeped the Wild Nettles with Organic Rosemary in this Organic Hair Rinse. I have been using it since my first jar of infusion was made over 1 year ago. My hair is stronger, my scalp no longer itches, and it is growing in thicker where I once had some thinning spots! So amazing! It is available here.

It is always a very exciting time tending the garden, pruning the herbs, and making sure to take time for the sun! My hopes are high this year on the variety of herbs and veggies we will grow! We are even planning on getting some laying hens for fresh eggs! Oh, my.....Fresh eggs! SOOO excited for that! My little one is excited too as she has been learning about farm animals! She keeps talking about "feeding scratch to the chickens"! It will be great to see her face when we get them!

Being able to be a Work-at-Home-Mom and not miss those cute little moments, is exactly why I work so hard at my business keeping everything fresh & new!

So speaking of fresh and new......Does the color YELLOW make YOU feel happy?

I know I feel so cheery when I look at the color yellow! It is said that the color yellow is good for despondent and melancholy conditions. In Ancient societies, yellow was the animating color for life suggesting joy, gaiety, merriment. No wonder why my entire Kitchen is COVERED with Sunflowers!!

So when I got a call from my Mom who reported she had access to fresh ORGANIC Meyer Lemons, I JUMPED on the chance! This would allow me to make my own Organic Lemon Extracts and incorporate them into my products like my Organic Lemon Creme Lotion!

Soon after they arrived, my daughter kept smelling them all day, counting them as she pulled them out of the box & when she put them back!

After processing the lemons by washing with water only, cutting, juicing, and removing the pith, my windowsill was riddled with jars full of the cuttings!

The rind cuttings cure for 4 weeks in my farmhouse windowsill in the sun until it turns a pale yellow! It is ready to be turned into a Lemon Delight!

Today I will tell you about my Organic Lemon Creme Lotion!

It is like a Lemon Pie topped with fresh vanilla whipped cream! I have teamed up the power of the Lemon Essential Oil, and my own Handmade Organic Extract, with REAL vanilla bean to give the tartness a creamy edge!
It is great for balancing Oily skin, as well as revitalizing under-active mature skin! This revitalizing comes from the Lemon Oils abilities to exfoliate dead skin cells and improving circulation!
This circulation boost is also great for helping to eliminate wastes, such as cellulite!
Who doesn't need the help of some good circulation and exfoliation?? I know I sure do!! Especially after the dry WINTER skin that needs to be removed for the new SPRING skin to be revealed!
Not only is it good for the body, but the hands as well! It helps keep your nails & cuticles in tip top shape by moisturizing and strengthening brittle nails!
I have used my blog as a way to highlight others, introduce new products, and give you a little peek inside of my world! I do love to share with you what my business is all about, and I look forward to sharing more with you!

I see my business changing as time goes on. My exposure from Word-of-Mouth has proven to be my best form of advertising!
The end of 2012 brought one of my new products………Organic Coconut Banana Cream Pie Lotion!

It was a sunny but cool Autumn afternoon. I wanted to incorporate coconut with something else, but what?
Some bananas were on the counter, smelling very ripe. Sweet, but caramel-like……That’s it, BANANA!

It all started! I began experimenting with just HOW could I extract the great smell of the ripe banana.
Of course this is the part of the story where I write the recipes down in my secret book, and continue from there!

So then it finally worked! I was able to extract the awesome banana smell from an Organic Banana! YEAH!

Now the hard part was over! I combined the extract with my already buttery & smooth Organic Coconut Lotion, and OH MY GOODNESS!! It was if you could eat it!

Next step was to convey this through my photograph of the lotion! I got it in my mind that the only extra prop in the picture HAD to be an actual Organic Coconut Banana Cream Pie! Fresh Whipped cream and all!

So I spent a few hours that afternoon, making the pie completely from scratch! I heard comments from my family that it would be easier to just buy it for the picture. Well, maybe, but I find it hard to take a picture of my Organic Coconut Banana Cream Pie next to a Chemical Pie that CLAIMS to be the real thing! PLUS, then we can actually EAT it once I was done using it as a prop! GENIUS!

Oh, and by-the-way, it was DELICIOUS!! Sooooo good!

I have had it listed in my shop for a while now, and I have sold some already! Each person who tries it falls completely in LO♥E! At this time I am only selling them in 8oz sizes due to not only the time invested in it, but that is my batch size. This ensures that my lotion wouldn’t sit and go bad!
You know that is how all of my orders are, Don’t you? I make each order fresh so you have the maximum shelf life on your lotions! It hasn’t been sitting in some warehouse, like most conventional lotions, it was freshly made right before being packed & shipped off to you!
I customize each one to match your skin type: Dry~Oily~Normal Each skin type responds to different essential oils, so I kept that in mind when choosing the varieties. Visit my post here to get more information on how I hand harvest the clay from here in the Pacific Northwest, as well as a map to show where I get it and more information on its origins!
Then I added in some Local Raw Honey to add in moisture as well as honey's ability to draw out toxins from your pores!

Next up to be released this weekend....... Organic Coconut Banana Cream Pie Lotion!!
I have taken my Organic Coconut Lotion and incorporated REAL ORGANIC Banana Extract I make myself! Most banana smells are artificial, which I am against, so I set out to make my own! Why not?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I tried 2 times to make my Organic Banana Extract and success!! PLUS the pie you see in the picture......I made it homemade JUST for the picture! I wanted to convey the PURE creaminess of the coconut mixed with the tropical highlights of the banana♥ Pure nose delight!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I use only Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil from Nutiva! They have the BEST coconut oil and I am pretty much obsessed with it! Visit them here for great deals as they ship free with any $30 purchase, which is easy to achieve!
It is great to cook with as well as 100's of uses and MIRACLE properties that literally will boggle your mind! It is SO delicious and I do not see using any other Organic Coconut Oil because I have found mine!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I also only use Certified Organic Bananas! Why Bananas, you ask?
Bananas help in making the skin soft and supple, plus provide exclusive enzymes to help reduce inflammation! The anti-inflammatory properties calm irritation while vitamins and antioxidants increase circulation for healing, and the antibacterial properties heal any infection. SO when paired along with the Organic EV Coconut Oil, which is anti-inflammatory/anti-bacterial as well makes for a lucious smelling AND beneficial cream!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I will post on my facebook page here when it is available for sale this weekend, so link up!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This face mask is not like your typical "put-on-let-dry-wash-off" kind of mask. It is already pre-moistened with Local Honey and Organic Vegetable Glycerin so all you have to do is apply it, let it do its thing, then remove with a warm washcloth!
The base is made up of my Hand Harvested Glaciomarine Clay I talk about in this post http://honeybeeholistics.blogspot.com/2011/04/organic-clay-tea-tree-soap-with-hand.html , PLUS a whole slew of hand picked flower buds and herbs to heal, nourish, and tone your skin!
I would recommend using this mask once a week. It is great for all skin types, especially dry skin as the honey moisturizes so well.
Wild harvested Strawberry Leaves & Wild Dandelion flower heads help with toning and tightening pores. The Glaciomarine Clay helps remove impurities without drying because it is swirled with Organic Jojoba Oil leaving your skin soft and cleansed!
The other wonderful ingredients I use each have their own properties in skin cleansing, repair, or healing. They are:
*Organic Ground Oatmeal~ A great gentle exfoliator and protectant.
*Organic Red Rooibos~ Loaded with Anti-oxidants to help repair free radical damage.
*Organic Orange Peel~ Loaded with Vitamin C, it is a great astringent to help tighten pores.
When the Fall Honey Harvest Happens in a few weeks, I will be making some up for sale!
I absolutely LOVE FAll! The colors, the smells, the baking!! So to add to this excitement of crispness in the air I will be launching some new products!
Today I introduce to you my new Organic Lotion!
~~Organic Almond Lotion~~
This is a "Take-Me-Back" smell to when I would visit my Grandma! She loved the Jergen's Cherry Almond Lotion, and she would always be slathering it on!
I have taken the smell and reproduced it here, sans the cherry fragrance!
Loaded with naturally occuring Vitamin E, Organic Sweet Almond Oil is the BEST go -to for rejuventaing skin and helping to protect from free-radicals in your environment!
It is then combined with Organic Almond Essence that gives it that unforgettable Almond aroma! You CAN have great lotion that moisturizes and doesn't seal your skin with harmful chemicals! Fragrance oils are not healthy and so the #1 reason, among many others, as to why I choose to NOT use them!
So check my Etsy shop for the new lotion here : http://www.honeybeeholistics.etsy.com
~3.Tell me a little about yourself and how you got started doing what you do?
I'm a stay at home mom to a very fun two year old boy. I taught kindergarten through third grade for eight years before leaving teaching to be with my son. I've always enjoyed making cards and sculpting quirky little figures. I'd never thought of selling them though until I met a wonderful mom who crochets and told me about her shop on Etsy (JustBeHappy). I decided to give it a try and here I am.
~4.What type of items would I find in your shop?
In my shop you'll find funny little sculptures (like Mr. Frenchie) and a bright assortment of mini cards, matchbook style cards and greeting cards. I enjoy embellishing my cards with unexpected details like felt animals and stitched paper. Most of the materials I use are eco friendly like bamboo thread ( a sustainable resource), eco-fi felt (made from recycled plastic bottles) and cardstock that is recycled or certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). The mailing envelopes and invoice paper I use are recycled too. As my shop grows I will be adding more eco friendly items and materials. I'd love to be a really green, eco friendly shop one day.
~5.How long have you been crafting?
Ever since I can remember! My mom loves making all kinds of crafts and she always let me craft with her. Together we painted, sculpted, sewed and baked. I loved it all with the exception of crochet, it's just something I never got the hang of so I really admire people who can do it!
~6.What inspires you the most to create?
People! Many of my little sculptures are based on people I've met throughout my life. They are the fun characters that you may meet for only a few moments but they make a lasting impression. When it comes to card design my inspiration comes from custom requests. One of my very first custom orders was for a birthday card for a four year old girl. The little girl had asked her mom for a card with an angel and flowers. I'd never made a card like that before and was so happy and relieved that my vision for the card was a perfect fit with what she wanted.
~7.What is the one "must have" item you need with you when you create?
My must have item is....solitude. I do my work when everyone else is asleep so I usually work at night and can squeeze in a bit of work when my son is napping.
~8.What is one of your favorite items from your favorites list on Etsy?
Oooh this is a tough one to answer, there are so many amazing items! Since I have to pick just one it's this sweet little mouse mom and baby print. http://www.etsy.com/listing/71429355/mama-mouse-and-baby-5-x7-illustration
~9.When you aren't crafting, what do you do?
I am so lucky to be home with my son and I do as much I can to enrich his life so we go on plenty of playdates, we visit the zoo, childrens museums, go for walks in the park and play outside as much as the weather allows. When we're home we paint, bake (always a VERY messy affair) and play whatever games his imagination conjures up.
~3.Tell me a little about yourself and how you got started doing what you do?
I'am a christian, stay-at home mom to Todd, 8 and Amber, 6. We are in the process of adopting another child thru the state of WA. We love adoption, and are so blest that God has led us down this path! My husband and I lived in N. Carolina the first 4 years of our marriage, and that is where I learned the art of basket-weaving! ( The Appalations are full of baskets! ;) I immediately felt 'connected' to the art, and my mind has hardly stopped churning out new ideas since. :/ My husband is extremely supportive, and is my biggest 'fan' ! =) We moved out to the great Northwest in 2002, and I have continued weaving, and also have gotten into teaching basket-weaving. I feel so blest being able to do this, and all the wonderful people I meet are such an added bonus! Such as my students in my weaving classes. Here is a pic of a few of my students with the baskets they made! I am the one in the middle:)
My other one thing I enjoy a lot is peicing and quilting, I do that when I find the time.
~6.What inspires you the most to create? My daily life, I think. The jobs I'm doing, and altho I'm not a huge gardener, a lot of my baskets are designed around my garden and harvesting, etc. Hobby Farm Home magazine and Country Sampler and Mary Jane's Farm Magazines (s) always inspire a creative streak too. ;)
~7. What is the one "must have" item you need with you when you create? This is funny, and one I don't share it a lot but,I have a CD player by my workspace, and whenever I'm creating I have to have something playing. ;/ ...Just background noise... ( my husband thinks it's funny ;)
~8.What is one of your favorite items from your favorites list on Etsy? Oh, please, I don't know.... I like them all, really why do we 'favorite' them? ;) I think tho, that it would be the homeade soaps... I really like homeade soaps, and always have a basket in my bathroom with a selection in it. The children grab one to suit their mood for their evening bath, and put them back in the basket when their finished, it's a fun thing for them.
